A chance
to hit the beach early! (On the roads that is!) The 22nd Westerly
Track & Athletic Club Clamdigger 5 Mile Road Race is set
for April 21st, 2002 at Misquamicut, RI.
This annual
rite of spring serves as the kickoff to the season for many
area runners. The race each year is a package of activity offering
healthy recreation and fun for the whole family! The event goes
into action at 10:30 AM with the start of the USATF sanctioned
Grand Prix 5 Mile Racewalk, which always attracts some of the
sport's top regional athletes competing for points towards the
New England age group championships. All walkers may compete
but, be wary!, the racewalk is professionally judged!
The 5 Mile
Road Race begins at 11:00 AM, accompanied by a 3 Mile Recreational
Fitness Walk for those who'd like a picturesque stroll along
Atlantic Ave., Misquamicut's main venue. This same long straightaway
will test the mettle of the road race leaders with the finish
in constant view from more than a 1/4 mile away!
There's
even a Kids 1K Race (right on the beach!) at 12:00 PM. All entries
will receive a ribbon.
All races
start and finish at the Westerly Town Beach Pavilion, Atlantic
Ave., Misquamicut, RI.
