News - Fall 2007 The
final week of the fun runs was a 2-person relay, with each person doing a 1-mile
time trial. It went over well. The
3 mile beach run was held August 31st with a record 122 runners. Westerly High's
Tim O'Loughlin led the field with 17:38. Andrew Springer was right behind. Mike
Vettese, also on the Westerly Cross Country team was 5th at 17:59. Jeff Walker,
Mark Burbelo and Larry Orlando were top 10 finishers. Dominque Lee was the first
woman followed by Lindsay Blitz. From the older generation was 74 year old Coburn
Graves. The
annual YMCA triathlon had track club members Larry Orlando, Steve Schonning, Carol
Ann Gray, Buddy Grills and Coburn Graves winning awards. The Shoreline Biathlon
had the same group plus Paul Gray, John Hammit and Clem McGrath winning awards. There
was an informal fun run at the Grills preserve in Bradford on Saturday mornings
for most of the early fall. This is the site of the new High School Cross Country
Course. Hopefully, these will start back up when hunting season concludes. The
board is now hard at work on the Little Rhody Run Around Race to be held November
18th at 11 AM. Details. This
year's scholarship winners were Andrew Dionne and Heather Czapla. The
board voted to give honorary lifetime membership to Gennie Kurdzial.
